Proxy Sites 101

May 28th, 2010 Comments off

What are proxy sites?

Proxy sites give you the power and ability to keep your personal information and IP safe from many different things like spyware. You may not know this but every time you go on a website you are actually exposing your IP and other personal information. So, if you are like me and most people and want to keep your IP safe then I a totally proxy will benefit you.

However not only do proxies give you the power to protect yourself online but they also give you the ability to unblock any websites which your school/work establishment has blocked, sites such as myspace, games and facebook. I know everyone has had a time when they are at school and work and have nothing to do and they are bored out of there mind and want to go on Myspace, Games or Facebook but can’t because it’s blocked, so what do you do? You open a proxy and type in the site you want to go to and hey presto you have bypassed the filter!

The great thing about proxies is that you don’t have to pay anything to use them as they are 100% free and there are many available out there so if one does get blocked then you can find a working one in a matter of seconds!

So, to get you going on your proxy surfing journey I recommend http://www.sneakystudent.com which allows you to unblock myspace, unblock games, unblock facebook and any other sites.

Happy Browsing, good luck!

Daniel Lambert has been using proxy sites since high school and runs the popular proxy Sneaky Student – Unblock MySpace, Unblock Games, Unblock Facebook.

Can I Surf Securely with Anonymous Proxy Surfing ?

May 27th, 2010 Comments off

Anonymous proxy surfing has become increasingly popular as people using the internet on a daily basis become more and more aware of just how insecure their private information is. While it might sound as if being a computer specialist to safeguard your private information for free online sounds like the truth, in reality it’s something that anyone can do.

So what are the main points of concern to ensure you’re surfing securely?

If you want to securely surf the internet, there are a few things that you must be aware of:

1.Web Server Logs that record your IP address

2.ISP Logs that store the IP address of every website you visit

3.HTTP Transport – In most situations web traffic is transferred in a plain text format making it easy to collect and read

How can this be prevented and what are the costs involved? There are different levels of protection provided by either free or paid services.

The easiest thing to protect you from is the Web Server Logs. Anonymous proxy surfing makes sure that the IP recorded by the web servers is that of the proxy, not yours. Using IE (Internet Explorer) makes it very easy to setup use of a proxy server manually. Simply go to Tools –> Internet Options –> Connections –> LAN Settings and simply put in the IP address of the proxy. The difficulty with free proxies is that many of them are gotten through hacking or servers that are incorrectly configured and are unbelievably slow and unsecured.

There is a widely available open source program called TOR that provides you with more security then randomly choosing from a free proxy and hoping it’s not run by Russian Hacking Clubs! TOR has the ability to provide you with a very secure connection but it can be difficult to setup and the speeds are still terrible unless the sites you visit are in a text format only.

The other points of concern require the use of a encryption protocol to bypass. One in particular called Stunnel gives you the ability to encrypt your TCP connection inside the Secure Socket Layer, otherwise known as the SSL. While the program may be free, you need to be very technically minded to setup the program properly, but if you have the time and your just curious you can actually do some experimenting of your own with the program.

What Is An Anonymous Proxy And Are They Really Anonymous?

May 23rd, 2010 Comments off

An anonymous proxy just sounds so safe and secure, I’ll be completely anonymous using it and safe from censors, snoopers, hackers and identity thieves. Unfortunately that is not quite the case, it’s just a little deceptive and things are not quite what they seem. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in favour of these proxies and in fact I use them myself but you should be quite clear on what they actually do.

When you use an anonymous proxy, your browsing session goes something like this -

You send request to proxy server, proxy server forwards that request to the web server, web server replies and proxy forwards the answer.

So the main benefit is that the web server never actually sees who is requesting the web page, the request can from the proxy server and that’s all it sees. Now this is fine and it does give you some anonymity on the web but only from the web site you are visiting.

You are still left with many privacy concerns -

1) All your browsing information on your PC – although that is easily cleared by using privacy options on your browser
2) Every web site you visit is logged at your ISP and linked to your PC
3) The proxy server has a complete log of all your browsing
4) If you browse you probably use HTTP which can be intercepted and read by anyone

There’s quite a few more but the main area of concern for me, and the reason why many people are the victims of some form of identity theft is they use free anonymous proxies that are completely unknown to them. These are often set up by hacking groups to harvest personal details (yes yours!) and steal identities. If you want to protect yourself online, never, ever use any sort of anonymous proxy which you know nothing about.

Learn About your Free Web Proxy

May 20th, 2010 Comments off

It is known that a proxy server is a server that retrieves the web information for you. These proxy servers work by providing their own identity instead of your own and that means fewer risks for spam or other e-junk. Through a proxy server you can browse the net without any worries because these sites provide their own identity to the visited sites. While browsing through web pages, information about you and your computer is required. That is why proxy servers are recommended because the requesting data comes first to the proxy and only afterwards the information is required from you directly.

In many cases these proxy servers are used for increasing the network capacities and also its speed. This is done with the help of the saved information in the proxy servers’ database. It is also known that if a person searches something on the internet that required information will be stored in a special database called cache. When new users open the same page or ask for the same information, the proxy server looks first in his cache and only afterwards over the internet. In many cases the searched information was already opened and the proxy servers do not do anything but restore the information from the cache.

It is good to know that the most common used proxy servers are the anonymous ones. These servers hide your ID and any kind of information only in your interest. These anonymous servers also help in cases when some internet providers band users or regions or even countries. They can request the needed information with the help of these servers that help you browse without having to share your IP or ID.

Even if many persons consider web surfing a normal subject it is good to know that web surfing is not as harmless at it seems. Many threats occur while you browse the net. These threats often refer to internet privacy. The problem is that many sites require general information about you and your personal computer and you are automatically recorded for analyzing purpose. The sites that require this kind of information probably intend to get your e-mail or other information about your PC and operating system. This information is enough for small hacking programs that will block your PC and make you reboot.

That is why the anonymous proxy servers are a solution against spammers because they can safely hide your IP address and other information from prying webmasters.

Guide to an Anonymous Web Proxy

May 16th, 2010 Comments off

What is to know about these proxy servers? It is good to know from the beginning that all of their users are enjoying using them.

The term proxy server describes a computer that offers a network service which allows its clients to make indirect connections to other network services. The phenomenon can be also described as follows: a client connects to the proxy server and through it he requires a connection, a file or other resource that is available on other servers. A proxy server can retrieve the searched information through direct connection to the specified server or even from its cache.

There are also much simpler explanations of the term called proxy server. To make it easier to understand we might compare the proxy server with a network machine or computer through what you get to connect to other machines and especially to other persons.

It is also good to know that the used memory for these proxy servers works like a database which will certainly be restored if the same information is asked for more than one time. The conclusion that these proxy servers are useful was revealed because of this fact. If the cache memory restores the information that was earlier needed this might lead to increase of the network quality and might speed up the internet connections.

We also heard about anonymous proxy servers. What is to know about these anonymous web proxies you might wonder? Well these special proxy servers are more than useful. It is well known that anonymous proxy servers hide your ID which will protect you and you computer from unauthorized access through the internet. The IP address is protected with the help of these anonymous proxy servers and no worries should occur while you are browsing the internet. These proxy servers might be used for different web services starting with web mail and ending with web-chat rooms or FTP achieves.

It is also good to know for those who surf the web without any worries that some sites require IP addresses or even IDs. Once they have gathered this information along with some information about your operating system the hacking of your PC might start. You will notice that your PC begins to block more and more often, requiring in most of the cases a reboot and worse than that is the possibility of getting access to your hard drive or RAM.

Anonymous Proxy Lists – Who Owns The Free Proxies?

May 14th, 2010 Comments off

We all know it really, when we see web sites constantly updating with free anonymous proxy lists. New ones seem to be added every day, isn’t it nice of people to pay huge bandwidth charges to let complete strangers surf anonymously on the internet?

Well the simple fact is that they generally don’t, the majority of owners of these proxies have no intention of using them as free proxies. It’s simple they didn’t patch their server, they’d didn’t quite set up Squid properly, they made a mistake somewhere down the line and suddenly their server has been opened up to the not unsubstantial crowd of surfers who want to use their proxy to surf the internet with.

Why do people use these proxies?

Well several reasons really, some think it gives them complete anonymity on the internet (which it really doesn’t) and some people want to use them to bypass some local firewall which stops them accessing Facebook. Then there are those stuck in countries who censor and filter the entire internet for their citizens, saving their people from the evils of You tube and the like. Proxies help you do all these things to an extent.

There are a few problems with this even if you get over the obviously moral one of taking advantage of someone and using their server without permission. The main practical one is that unless you catch a very new free proxy – your surfing will be extremely slow as you share it with thousands of others. All the free anonymous proxies end up either falling over, overrun their bandwidth limit or the poor unfortunate systems administrator realising what’s going on!

The other really good reason to stay well clear of these anonymous proxies is that a lot of them are simply traps to utilise the fact that you browse in clear text with HTTP and a proxy is a great place to gather lots of personal identity information. Saves the hackers going to look for victims when they send their data through a single point in clear text. It’s just not safe to use them unless you are certain who owns the server, so do you yourself a favour and stay away from the anonymous proxy lists, you’ll be much safer.

Phpproxy Servers What Are They?

May 10th, 2010 Comments off

Have you ever been blocked from websites at school or work? Have you ever wondered what the sites contain that are so malicious that people will spend time working on how to stop you from looking at them. Generally speaking you are being stopped from visiting sites that are considered non-related to your computer access.

If this is happening at to you most likely the blocked sites are extremely innocuous and are probably gaming sites such as http://www.arcadethunder.com or sports sites such as http://www.espn.com or a myriad of other sites. These sites offer breaks from your daily routines and allow a little downtime, however the powers that be have deemed them inappropriate for viewership.

So what is a person to do to get around this system? Many people just rail against the establishment and proceed as normal limited by their ability to access these sites. Others have found the way around the system. They are using a system called a phpProxy. This system is simple and useful to the individual looking to by-pass the firewall that is in place limiting your ability to view the internet at your leisure.

The system simply uses another location to download all of your surfing habits onto. Simply do a search on the web and you will turn up a wealth of phpProxy sites. Once you log-into the site you will see a simple bar that looks like your toolbar. Type the web address of the site that you wish to visit into the bar. The Proxy will then serve as a “Proxy” for your local server and download the page for you. This downloaded page will be viewed through the eyes of the proxy that you are using. You should now be able to function as normal with the page that you are own as long as you stay on the Proxy server location.

This system affords you two levels of protection:

1) The site that you are visiting is cached on the phpProxy location and your local server never knows that you visited the end site. It only knows that you were at the phpProxy site.

2) Because your IP address is never divulged by the phpProxy you are not at risk for spam and viruses.

So the next time you are locked out of a favorite website at work or home simply find a favored phpProxy and dial in through it. It is a great way to avoid the issues of natively searching the internet. While protecting your local server and local computer.

Learn How to Use the Safe Web Proxy

May 10th, 2010 Comments off

Proxy servers are computers that offer a computer network service that allows its clients to connect indirectly to other network services. Proxies that are able to block the offensive web content are called web proxies. Another meaning of web proxies is reformatting the pages for other different operating systems. The internet providers might also set up proxies for preventing the occurrence of the computer viruses or any other hostile content such as spam that might affect your PC.

The special case of web proxies and the most frequently used are CGI proxies. For everybody to understand it is good to be explained that these CGI proxies are web pages that allow users to access other sites through them. These special sites are mostly used to gain access to blocked web sites. This thing is possible because the web proxy servers hide your IP address from any website and might also lead to faster browsing.

Many organizations such as schools or families use a proxy server to enforce acceptable network use policies or to provide security such as anti-virus, anti-malware or anti-spam services.

Anonymous proxy servers are most frequently used because these web servers do not share your IP address or any information about you or your computer. These anonymous proxy servers will protect you from different forms of malware such as viruses or spam.

Another advantage was proved when it comes to the anonymous web proxy server. It is known that these servers work with the help of a virtual database called cache. This memory is used to store the asked information and when that information is needed again there is no need for a new connection. The required information will be restored from the cache memory and this can not lead to anything but an increase of web surf quality and an increase of browsing speed.

These web proxy servers are indicated because it is known that if some sites get your IP and some minimum information about your operating system, hacking might be possible. Hacking will lead to an ongoing block and more than that it may lead to sharing the information from your hard drive and RAM.

More an inconvenience than a risk is the fact that proxy users may find themselves being blocked from certain web sites because numerous sites or forums block the IP addresses that are known to be spammed or trolled.

The good thing is that your IP is not vulnerable by using these web proxies.
